I’VE ONLY GOT FIVE MINUTES

← BACK TO CURIOSITY COMPASS

The short version

One screen can show an offer. It can't show the whole story.

You see a room, a price and a booking button.

Behind that offer are prices, conditions and people worth understanding.

One visible offer

Fictional example

Harbor View Hotel

King room · Oct 12–15

Illustrative price

$249

The screen gives you enough to consider this offer.

That is useful. It is also only the traveler-facing part of the booking.

What may sit behind it

The visible offer had to reach you somehow.

Before an offer reaches your screen, the room has to be available and a price has to reach you through a particular path.

Another path may present an equivalent stay differently. The first displayed number may also sit alongside required, chosen or later costs.

One or more businesses may help present, arrange or service the booking.

You do not need to learn how every part works to understand the useful point.

What that changes

One visible offer can be accurate without being the complete picture.

A booking screen can accurately show one offer without proving that it is the only pricing path, the complete cost picture or the only business relationship around the trip.

Use what the screen tells you.

Just don't ask one screen to tell you everything.

Before you book, look one layer deeper.

Who sets the price? What conditions apply? And who helps make the journey happen?

IF YOU HAVE ONE MORE MINUTE

THE OFFER WAS ONLY THE FIRST SIDE.

You have seen what one screen can tell you.

Now see what connects the offer, the journey, and the larger picture.
